NEW GLASGOW – Mildred Lottie “Ruth” Cullen-Pelak, died peacefully in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, on Friday, July 4, 2008, at the age of 106. She was born in London, England in 1902 and immigrated to Canada in 1908. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Lottie (Rye) Withers. She is survived by sons: Robert (Marie), Little Harbour; Douglas (Shirley), Moncton, N.B.; David (Barbara), Kelowna, B.C.; Walter (Bessie), Jacksonville, Fla.; and daughter, Ruth Savage (Edward), Essex Junction, Vt.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and three nieces and three nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, David Cullen; second husband, John Pelak; and brother, Walter “Wally” Withers. She was a resident of Glen Haven Manor for the past one and half years, where she received excellent and attentive care which she greatly appreciated from the staff of 1 South. At her request, her body has been donated to Dalhousie University, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, in Saint George's Anglican Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. James Purchase and Rev. William White officiating, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to Saint George's Anglican Church, New Glasgow, or a charity of choice.
