PICTOU – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Gladys Chapman at Shiretown Nursing Home, formerly of Church Street Villa, Pictou, on August 1, 2008. Born in Beccles, England, Muriel was the daughter of the late Ernest & Mable (Mann) Gower. Muriel served in the British Air Force during World War II, during which time she met and married her husband, Stewart, and moved to Pictou, N.S., as a war bride in 1946. Muriel was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her family and was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in her beautiful flower garden. Muriel was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou. Muriel loved baseball and was a loyal fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. She is survived by daughters, Yvonne (Bruce) MacKenzie, Scotsburn; Margaret (Kim) Spence, Londonderry; son, Gordon (Lorraine) Chapman, Pictou; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Joan Gower, England; niece, Wendy Gower, England; nephew, Kevin Gower, New Zealand; special cousins, Christine and Barry Stanton, England. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Stewart, and brother, Gordon. Special thanks to Pictou County Continuing Care, VON, Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital and Shiretown Nursing Home. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Jeanette Fleischer officiating. Burial will be in Haliburton Cemetery. Reception to follow in the church hall. Flowers welcome. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
