NEW GLASGOW – Muriel Helen Josephine Fraser (McTaggart), 88, New Glasgow (Pt. 44 Little Harbour) passed away peacefully Sunday morning with family at her side. Moi, as she was affectionately known, had been residing at the Maritime Odd Fellows Home in Pictou since Aug. ’06, where she enjoyed the tender loving care of all staff and volunteers. Born in Fredericton, N.B., on Dec. 13, 1919, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, five years ago, as well as by parents, John R. and Edith (Nevin) McTaggart. Moi is survived by brother, John, Travellers' Rest, P.E.I., sister, Norma Mason, Kingston, N.S., and Pat Loring, Saint John, N.B. Following brief working stints in Montreal at Merck & Co. Inc. then at Metropolitan Life in New Glasgow, our Mom became a lifetime homemaker and Ralph the breadwinner. Good-natured straight-shooting humour laced with witty one-liners and healthy zest for life made the Fraser household a great place to call home. Her passionate stewardship for the environment ranged from protecting Piping Plover habitat to recycling Christmas wrap and cards. At Trinity United Mom was an active UCW member, Presbytery rep, auxiliary choir member, Sunday school teacher and youth group member. Mom happily supported good causes that included Home & School, Meals on Wheels, Adult Literacy and especially the good works of the Y’s Menettes, notably the annual Book Fair. Mom loved reading, gardening, walking her dog Maisie and travelling with Dad to social events and the theatre. Most of all, our Mom provided definite house rules, great home cooking, stimulating conversation, love and fun for her five children and spouses: Clyde (Rose), New Glasgow; Janet (Joe) Becker, Vancouver; Andrew (Joan), Pictou; Zachary (Marion), Moira (Fred) Archibald, Dartmouth; her fourteen grandchildren, Meghan, Luke, Michaela, Aaron, Caroline, Emily, Amelia, Tyler, Brock, Blair, Simon, Janna, Hayley and Paige; great-grand children Aliyah, Keira, Kai, Nahni, Sophie and Faizal. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, where visitation will held Friday, Nov. 14, 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service to celebrate Muriel’s life will be held Saturday at 1 pm at Trinity United Church led by Diaconal Minister, Lori Crocker. Reception to follow in the multi-purpose room with interment at Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour. Donations may be made to the Trinity United Church Organ Fund or a charity of your choice.
