BEYEA, DOROTHY, ANDREA (O'NEILL) The sudden death of Dorothy Andrea (O'Neill) Beyea occurred on January 27, 2005 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born in Petersville, Queens County, NB on December 25, 1937, she was the daughter of Daniel Andrew and Dorothy Mae (Brown) O'Neill. Dorothy moved with her family to the Noonan area in 1953 when their land, home and farm were expropriated in the creation of Camp Gagetown. After attending Mount Carmel Academy in Saint John, she graduated with honours from Fredericton High School in 1954. She completed her Registered Nurse's licence training at the Metropolitan General Hospital School of Nursing in Windsor, Ontario in 1958. She then worked for a year as a registered nurse at the Saint John General Hospital. In 1960, having finished training at the Teachers' College in Fredericton, she taught briefly in elementary schools in New Brunswick. From 1960 to 1969, Dorothy was a nurse and assistant head nurse at the Victoria Public Hospital (now the Victoria Public Health Centre) in Fredericton. In 1973 she worked at the University of New Brunswick Science library and took courses in the Faculty of Science. Since then she concentrated on her family and helped friends and relatives with their health concerns. She was devoted to her children and encouraged them to become independent. She maintained an avid interest in advances in health and science. Prompted by her lifelong love of learning and language, Dorothy produced manuscripts on etymology and phonetics. On August 1, 1992 Dorothy and her family attended the EnniskillenPetersville 40 year reunion of the families whose lands were expropriated to create Canadian Forces Base Gagetown near Oromocto, NB. Her kindness and generosity will be missed by everyone who knew her. Surviving are her husband John, daughter Jacinthe and son James as well as brothers Gregory (Faye), Thomas (Donna), Edward (Florence) Gerald (Toni) and Basil (Karen), and sister Mary (Ferris). She was predeceased by her brother Francis, whose wife Phyllis and family live in London, Ontario. Dorothy's family wish to thank all our relatives and friends who offered their condolences, sent flowers, donations and cards. We appreciate all the help and support we have received. Following Dorothy's wishes, she was cremated and there was no public viewing or funeral. Interment will follow at a later date.
