WESTVILLE – Reginald Alexander Chabassol, age 87 years, Diamond Street, Westville, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit Pictou. Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Augustus and Margaret (MacMullen) Chabassol. Reggie was a proud war veteran, serving overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces for five years. He was a member of the Overseas War Veterans Assoc. He was a high pressure welder, working in Comby Chance, Stephenville, Lab. City, NFLD, Calgary, Alta. He was devoted to his community, Past President Local #244 Antigonish, Past President of the Holy Name Parish Council, Past President Pictou County Heritage Club, and Past President of the Westville Curling Club. In his retirement he was caretaker for the Holy Name Parish and an avid gardener. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 56 years, Marion (MacKenzie); daughters: Joann MacDonald (Kevin), Westville; Janet White (Larry), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Margaret , Riverview Residential Centre; Catherine Lochead (David), Sylvester; son, Francis (Jan), Westville; 13 grandchildren: Scott and Troy Muir; Mitchell and William MacDonald; Heather Chabassol-MacKinnon, Francine Leach, Reginald Chabassol Jr; Ryan, Janelle; and Cobee MacNaughton; Ashley, Hillary and George Lochead; three great-grandchildren, Jacqueline and Alexander Muir; and Grace Leach. He is also survived by brother, Bernie (Sally), New Glasgow; sisters, Theresa MacRae and Reta (Joe) MacNeil; and sister-in-law, Nickie Chabassol. He was predeceased by brothers: Adrian, Rod, Art, Peter, Gussie, Frank, and James; sisters, Mae MacEachern, Catherine Bennett and infant sister, Sadie. Visitations will be held on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The C.W.L. will hold prayers 3:45 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. The Overseas War Veterans will conduct a service at 4:15 Friday at the Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville with Father Donald Boudreau officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery, Westville. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northumberland Veterans Bus Fund, 222 Haliburton Road, Pictou, N.S. BOK 1HO
