New Glasgow – Russell Thomas Breen, age 87 of 336 Albert Street, New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, May 14th, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Richard) Breen. Russell was a lifelong resident of New Glasgow. He was employed with Maritime Steel for some 30 years and had operated his own welding and wrought iron shop. Russell was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Bombers Club. Surviving are daughters: Vivian Breen, New Glasgow; Shirley (Brad) Rutledge, New Glasgow; Diane Breen, Pictou Landing; Judy (Guy) Johnston, New Glasgow; Bernadette (Donnie) Aikens, New Glasgow; daughter-in-Law, Susan Breen, Thorburn; sons: Lawson (Heidi), Chance Harbour; Richard (Mary), Antigonish; Russell (Susan), Pictou Landing; Joey (Kathy), Stellarton; Peter (Barb), Stellarton; Ronnie, New Glasgow; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Breen, Kelowna, B.C. Russell was predeceased by his wife, the former Bessie C. Arthur; a son Kevin, a grandson, David Andrew Breen; sisters, Marjorie and Ann; a brother Irving Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in memory of Russell may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital or to The Aberdeen Hospital Trust for Autism.
