Ruth Jean Hamilton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully at Arborstone Enhanced Care on February 26, 2008. She was born on July 8, 1914, in Antigonish, N.S., and married the late Keith Hamilton on June 28, 1941. She was a graduate of Mount Allison University receiving a Bachelor of Science degree and she taught Home Economics for several years in Nova Scotia. In 1963, her family moved to Washington, D.C., where she had a long career in retail at Woodward and Lothrup. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou (San Antonio, Texas); two grandsons, Christian and Craig (San Antonio, Texas) and two great-granddaughters, Miranda (Johnson City, Tennessee) and Madison (Universal City, Texas); also nephews, David Simpson (Potomoc) and Eric Simpson (Nottingham, England), and niece Joan Simpson Bears (Halifax). She was predeceased by her husband, Keith; brother, Raymond Simpson (Halifax, N.S.), and sister, Mary Simpson (Los Angeles, California). Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. A memorial service will be held in New Glasgow at a later date. www.mem.com
