SCOTSBURN – Helen Muir Campbell, 88, of Scotsburn, passed away February 2, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen (Muir) Steele, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. During World War II, she was a member of the Women’s Land Army in Scotland. A war bride, she arrived in Canada in July of 1946. Helen became an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, singing in the choir, and helping in the Ladies Aid, the A.M.S., and serving on the Board of Managers. She was also a member of Bethel Rebekah Lodge No. 96, Scotsburn, the War Bride Overseas Club, and a former member of the Scotsburn Women‘s Institute. She is survived by sons: Alistair, Scotsburn; Brian (Connie), Heathbell; Ian (Kathryn), New Glasgow; daughter-in-law, Louise, Hamilton, Ontario; special niece, Georgine (Vincent), Winnipeg; grandchildren: Tom, Paul, Matthew, Craig, Brandon, Christal, Lawrence; great-grandchildren: Crystal, William, Anderson, Preston, Mark, Kyle; sisters-in-law, Ann Campbell, West Branch; Helen Steele, Scotland; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew; son, Bill; grandson, Clinton; brothers, Willie and Tom; sister, Marjorie. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Friday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Lara Scholey officiating. Spring burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the Bethel Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, the Elevator Fund-Scotsburn Fire Department, or a charity of your choice.
