THORNTON, BEATRICE HELEN Beatrice Helen Thornton (Cooke) formerly of Fredericton and Oromocto, passed away at Mill Cove Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Born in East Saint John, Bea was the only daughter of Jesse and Margaret (Johnston) Cooke of Coldbrook. A loyal and dedicated career woman, Bea was employed with The Daily Gleaner for over 27 years, retiring in 1985. In addition to being a wonderful mother and grandmother "Nanny Bea" was an extremely generous, warm and loving person with a keen sense of humour, reflected in her ever present smile. Bea was also known for her beautiful craftwork, whether it be sewing, knitting, crocheting or needlepoint. Every piece was a treasured work of art. Bea is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Knight (Jim) of St. Stephen; son, Wayne F. Thornton (Bonny) of Fredericton; grandchildren, Tricia Jarratt (Bill), Michael Wilson, LaurieAnn Wilson, Jeffery Thornton (Jodi), Jonathan Thornton, Joel Thornton (Susan) and step-grandchildren, Sherry Knight and Cindy Morehouse (Ron) as well as great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law. Bea will be sadly missed by her family as well as her extended family at Mill Cove Nursing Home. Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 9th, 2005 from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 at St. John's Anglican Church, Broad Road, Oromocto. Rev. Keith Howlett officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow immediately after the service in the church hall. Interment will follow in the Sunnybank Cemetery, Fredericton.
