Ethel Irene Armstrong (nee Walsh) of Calgary, Alberta and formerly of Keeler, Sask. from 1939 - 1974, passed away on Good Friday, March 21, 2008 at the age of 90 years at the Beverly Centre, Glenmore in Calgary. Ethel was born on December 14, 1917 in Hazenmore, Sask and spent her early years in Saint Boswell's, Sask. In 1925, Ethel and her sister Vera moved to Kelstern, Sask. She completed her Grade 12 in Kelstern in 1937 and then moved to the Keeler district in 1939. She met and married Frank Armstrong of Keeler on September 7, 1940 where they farmed and raised four sons. Her beloved Frank passed away on February 24, 1965. Ethel remained on the farm moving to Regina, SK in 1974 and then to Calgary in 1977. She remained in her home for 29 years in Silver Springs. She loved her home and entertaining family and friends for years. Her kitchen was known for her angel food cakes, pies, baking and many turkey dinners. Due to failing health, Ethel moved in to the Beverly Centre, Glenmore in August, 2006 where she remained until her passing. Ethel was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1965, her dad Robert Walsh in 1976, her mother Ella Walsh (Purdy) in 1981 and her nephew Bradley Bay in October, 2007. She is survived by her family of four sons: Darwin (Maren) of Parksville, BC, Craig of Burns Lake, BC, Wray of Calgary, AB, Randy (Colleen) of Parksville, BC; five grandchildren: Brad, Abbey, Emmett and Jason of Parksville, Andrea of Oregon, USA; numerous nieces and nephews and her sister Vera Bay of Branch, Michigan, USA. Cremation took place in Calgary. A Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Moose Jaw, SK in the latter part of June. The date and time will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ethel may be made to a charity of your choice.
