STAIRS, DELMONT DONALD Delmont D. Stairs of Southampton passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 27, 2005. Born at Pinder, York County, he was a son of the late Charles and Alice (Yates) Stairs. Delmont was a welder by trade and was employed many years in Ontario with Massey Ferguson. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Italy and England and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Southampton Branch and the Nackawic Lions Club. Delmont is survived by three sisters, Christina Stairs, Fredericton, Leona Munro, Nackawic and Madelyn Perkins (Russ), Ocala, Florida; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Deweyert (John), Temperance Vale; two brothers-in-law, Robert McArthur, Oromocto and Robert Cleghorn, Temperance Vale; a special friend, Stella Woodcock, Hartfield; five nieces, Pat Corey (Murray), Nackawic, Bonny Mason (Paul), Alberta and Maxine Gilbey (Dale), Fredericton; five nephews, Keith Stairs (Lorna), Ontario, Lawrence Stairs (Helen), Michigan, Robert Crawford (Judy), Maine, Wayne Deweyert (Marianne), Ontario and Ted Deweyert (Karla), Holmesville; a foster son, Eddie Almas. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Joleen (Cleghorn) Stairs in 1996, brothers-in-law, Bige Stairs and Austin Munro and a sister-in-law, Doris (Cleghorn) McArthur. Resting at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic with visiting hours Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Friday, December 30, 2005 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Blinn officiating. Following interment in the Temperance Vale Cemetery, a reception will be held at the Nackawic Lions Club. A Lions Club tribute service will be held Thursday at 4p.m at the funeral home. A Royal Canadian Legion tribute service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Delmont, the family has suggested the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund or the Nackawic Lions Club scholarship fund.
