Darcey Lee Busse After a very brief but courageous battle with cancer, Darcey passed away peacefully at home on the morning of May 11th, 2008 at the age of 47. Darcey was born on May 6th, 1961 on his father's family farm near Hallonquist, Sk. He grew up in Moose Jaw with his Mom (Joyce), Dad (Rodney) and his sister's Sandra and Darla. He attended Palliser Heights for his elementary and junior high years and Central Collegiate Institute for high school. After high school, Darcey continued his education at the University of Saskatchewan where he enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program. Prior to graduating, he married the love of his life Cindy Crow and moved to Hawarden, Sk where Cindy was teaching. He did his teaching internship that fall in Macrorie, SK and was recognized with the Bates award. After graduating, Darcey began his teaching career which included positions in Moose Jaw, Elbow, Loreburn and finally in Outlook where he was Vice Principal at Outlook High School. Darcey passionately pursued many sports during his elementary and high school years before settling on volleyball as his elite sport. Darcey was a member of Canada's National Junior and Senior teams as well as a five year veteran of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. During his time with the Huskie, they captured the Canada West Conference title twice with Darcey being named to the Canada West All Star team all five years. As well, he was named CIAU All-Canadian twice. At the end of Darcey's career with the Huskies he was awarded the E. Kent Phillips Trophy as male athlete of the year and was eventually inducted to the U. of S. Athletes Wall of Fame. Because of his love and passion for all sports, Darcey eventually turned his attention to developing athletes. Darcey coached many young athletes who learned to play their sport with competence and to try to give 100% each time they practiced or played. His two sons, Matthew and Eric, were his number one priority. From the time they were two and shooting hoops on their Michael Jordan basketball hoop or skating at the Elbow rink to high school football learning how to tackle properly, Darcey was able to see what skills and progressions were needed to achieve success. Whether it was coaching basketball, hockey, volleyball or football, his love and delight was to devote his time and expertise to helping his sons realize their goals. He was also the spiritual leader of his home where the family took time to read God's word and learn to put their faith, trust and hope in God. The family enjoyed spending time together building traditions and memories. Many memories were captured on video and camera over the years to be treasured for many more years to come.
