Donald Jones Funeral Director Evelyn May Cooper May 26, 1918 - June 26, 2008 Evelyn May Cooper (Carey) of Tugaske,SK passed away at the Central Butte Regency Manor on June 26, 2008. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Charlie and Millie (Amrud) Carey, her husband John, brothers Leroy and Arthur Carey, brothers-in-law Ernie Dodds and Bob Cooper, and sisters- in-law Lois Carey and Anna Cooper. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Karen, son Jim (Jackie), grandchildren Carli and Johnathan, sisters-in-law Annie Dodds and Colleen Carey, nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. Evelyn was born in Dunblane, SK. where her parents owned a general store. She completed her Bachelor of Household Science degree at the University of Saskatchewan in 1938 and her dietetic internship in Toronto the following year. After the sudden death of her father she returned to Dunblane to help in the store for six years. She worked with the Extension Division of the University of Saskatchewan, travelling all over the province to conduct youth training schools and other extension and education events. Evelyn returned to university for a diploma in education and briefly taught in Saskatoon. In 1949 she married John. They lived on the farm at Tugaske except for the time in Saskatoon while John finished his Diploma in Agriculture. After many years living on the farm they moved "to town" but continued to work at the farm. Evelyn spent the last couple of years at the Regency Manor. Evelyn will live on in the memories of her family and friends. She was always interested in people and could talk with anyone. Many will remember her warm smile and pleasant nature. Good food was always a priority. Her angel food cakes made "from scratch" were delicious. The cakes were a way to use extra eggs. At times she handled 30 dozen eggs a day. Another job she did was to carry the milk pails back and forth from the barn to the house and run the cream separator morning and night. She worked very hard but somehow had the ability to make it look easy. It was only on the few occasions that she was away and someone else had to try to fill her shoes that it became clear how much she accomplished. We wish to thank the staff at Regency Manor for the wonderful care! A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in Evelyn's memory may do so to Tugaske United Church, or to Central Butte Health Foundation (Regency Manor), Box 40, Central Butte, S0H 0T0 or to a charity of their choice. In living memory of Evelyn, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register book at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
