Margaret Smith April 27, 1905 - July 21, 2008 Margaret Smith was born in Wigan, Lancaster, England April 27, 1905. Margaret came to Canada with her parents, John Robert and Rebecca Mason, settling in Winnipeg, MB. She married Alexander R. (Sandy) Smith on June 2, 1927. Pioneers of St. Marks, MB, they ranched, ran the post office and boarded the school teachers for many years. They were always very involved in the community and enjoyed serving others. They moved to Moose Jaw, SK, Jan. 1, 1950, where her husband was employed by the P.F.R.A. She was a resident of Moose Jaw until December 2000 when she moved to Calgary to live with her daughter Bertha. She resided at Trinity Lodge, Calgary, from November 2006 - April 2008. Margaret passed away at Sarcee Care West, July 21, 2008. She was predeceased by her parents; John Robert (Vimy Ridge) and Rebecca Mason; four sisters, Winoma, Ann, Rebecca and Regina; two brothers, John Robert and Albert Mason; her husband, Alexander R. (Sandy) Smith, July 1983 and grandson, Brett Warner, May 2002. She leaves to mourn; her daughter, Bertha Joyce Warner; grandson, Jeff Warner (Kelley); four great-grandchildren, Kristen Clarke (Tom), Bryce, Sean and Trevor Warner; granddaughters, Shelley Desjardins (Sylvain), Lori Warner (Greg); great-grandson, Tristen Reynard all of Calgary; nieces, Pat Henderson (Ross) of Canoe, BC, Linda (Allen) Wright, Deborah Smith, and Winona (George) Otsuji and nephew, Grant (Linda) Smith, all of Portage la Prairie and Faye Boyce of Winnipeg. Margaret was a member of Anget Temple No.123, Daughters of the Nile, Regina; Amarna Nile Club No.1, Moose Jaw; the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Moose Jaw (three times Worthy High Priestess) which closed in June 1994; the Monarchist League of Canada; the Canadian Club of Moose Jaw; Cosmos Senior Citizens; and the Sons & Daughters of the Pioneers Choir. She became a life member of the Mizpah Chapter No.1, Order of the Eastern Star, Moose Jaw and a life member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Winnipeg. Her best friend in Moose Jaw is Margaret Heilman but she had many friends from a wide spectrum of life. She was fond of them all corresponding with many of them until she was nearly 102. Margaret was a very happy and optimistic person, though not unaware of sorrow and sensitive to the feelings of others. She was always revered by her family, who gave her great joy. She enjoyed her last years in Calgary because she saw her family often. Those who knew her will miss her unconditional love, positive attitude, quick wit and thoughtful counsel. Margaret truly inspired all who met her. As an expression of sympathy, if you wish, contributions to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, c/o The Moose Jaw Shrine Club, Box 1329, Moose Jaw, Sask. S6H 4R3 would be appreciated by the family. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 1:00 pm at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel. Reverend Betty Bradley will officiate. Interment took place at the family plot in Hillside Cemetery, Portage la Prairie, MB. In living memory of Margaret, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
