HAROLD COGSWELL
COGSWELL, HAROLD The passing of Harold Cogswell occurred at the Veteran's Health Unit, Fredericton, on Monday, July 10, 2006. Harold was born in Fredericton on July 21st, 1920 to Walter and Lillie (Morris) Cogswell. Harold joined the Canadian Army in 1942. He was sent to fight in World War II overseas and had initially landed in Ortona, Italy. He held the rank as Corporal during the war. He fought in battles across Europe before reaching Holland in 1945. Following Harold's military service he was awarded five medals. They included the Holland Medal -Thank you Canada for liberating Holland, the 1939 -1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Voluntary Service Medal and the Service in England Medal. Following the war, Harold returned to Fredericton and worked for the John Palmer Shoe Factory and then the Palmer & McClellan Shoe Factory. During the 1960's Harold began his own crack filling and painting business that he operated until his retirement in 1986. During retirement, Harold enjoyed woodworking and building windmills at his home. Harold enjoyed listening to country music and watching the sports channel. At the end of the war, Harold met his present wife Reina during the liberation of Holland. After many years had passed, Reina and Harold reunited by chance in 1985 and have been together ever since. Harold is survived by his loving companion, Reina Wedge; children, Joan of Saint John, Tim of Fredericton, Randy of Fredericton, Lorri Lee of Durham, Judith Ann Gordon (Robert) of Waterloo, Ont., Randy Wedge (Joy) of Fredericton; grandchildren Trinda, Jason, John, Jamie, Pamela, Andrew (Erin), Matthew, Kyle and Nick; several great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Barbara Cogswell. Predeceased by his parents, a brother Henry and a son Jessie. Resting at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, where visitation will be held Wednesday 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Bishop's Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 2:00 pm. Interment in the Rural Cemetery.
