WIGGS, DR ALFRED JAMES (JIM) Dr. Alfred James (Jim) Wiggs died unexpectedly on Saturday September 16th 2006 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. He was born on February 11th, 1935 in Duncan, British Columbia. His parents were Alfred James Wiggs and Marie Olivine Pedneault. He grew up on Vancouver Island and met his wife while attending high school in Port Alberni. He then attended Normal School in Victoria for one year and taught school on Vancouver Island for 3 years before marriage and continuation of his studies. He graduated from UBC with honors in BSc in Zoology followed with an MSc. He then taught Junior High School in Burnaby for two years. In 1962 he moved to Edmonton and earned a PhD in Animal Physiology. He later moved to Fredericton in 1967 where he taught and conducted research in animal physiology at the University of New Brunswick. For a number of years, he served the Faculty of Science as Assistant Dean of Science. Throughout his career at the University, he was always available to all students for advice and counselling. He retired as a Full Professor in 1998, and since then has been enjoying attending seminars, oral exams and other functions pertaining to graduate students. For several years he was involved in the Scouting movement in Fredericton. He leaves his wife, Dorothy, daughter, Catherine Anne Wiggs of Cambridge N. S., son, David Stuart Wiggs (Keetah Eggers) of Vancouver and daughter, Jacqueline Lorraine Wiggs (Roger Newlove) of Ottawa. There are also 4 grandchildren - Jaimie Spriggs, Douglas Spriggs, Kirbie Spriggs and Davis Wiggs, one niece, Christine Clarke of Kamloops and godson, David Dilworth of Fredericton. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday September 20th, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A memorial service will be held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday September 21st; at 2:00 PM. Rev. Dr. Norman Whitney will officiate. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
