GERALD ANTHONY COLLINS
COLLINS, GERALD ANTHONY It is with great sorrow and regret that we announce the death of Gerald Anthony Collins, 48 years old, of Oromocto, NB. His wife Cynthia, three children - Jennifer, Christopher and Kaitlyn, and four grandchildren - Jacob, Kara, Tyler and Brody, survive him. He is also survived by his father, Gerald Sr., and mother Joan, of Mulgrave, NS and his four brothers - Kenneth, Blaise, John and James along with his three sisters - Patricia, Kathy and Joan. Gerald had a long and distinguished career with the Engineer Branch, serving over 30 years. A serving member of the Canadian Forces, his most recent appointments were as the School Chief Warrant Officer of the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering, and the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 4th Engineer Support Regiment at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. Throughout his career he served in numerous locations across Canada and overseas, and was deployed to Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. A beloved father, grandfather and husband, Gerald was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends. He enjoyed many a sunrise in his fishing boat on tranquil lakes as the morning mist rose. A smile on his face, he would laughingly tell tales of the great salmon and wildlife that got away. At many a house party he would gather up the guitar and sing songs that brought much joy to all those around him. Gerald was a man who was quick to smile, courageous, loving and always ready and willing to lend a hand. Family, friends and the Sapper community will deeply miss him. Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 8th, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Chapel, CFB Gagetown on Thursday, November 9th, 2006 at 11:00 am. Padre Darryl Levy will officiate. For those who wish, memorial tributes in Gerald's honor may be made to the Transition House for Abused Women and Children in Fredericton, NB. www.oromoctofh.com (357-5100)
