GRANT, MARY ALICE Mary A. (McCracken) Grant of Canterbury passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Carleton Manor on November 29, 2006. Mary was born at St. Stephen, NB in 1913 to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Bailey) McCracken. She was the oldest of seven children. Before her marriage, she worked at the Cotton Mill and Ganong's Chocolate Factory. On April 9, 1931, she married Donald Grant Sr. of Canterbury, NB. They had five children. After her children were grown, she worked for a time at Lewis's Rest Home. Mary was a devoted member of the Canterbury Country Club, the weekly Exercise Group and the St. John Ambulance. She and her husband Don loved to spend weekends and vacations camping at Mactaquac and in later years at Lake George. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mary was predeceased by a grandson, Alan Grant, her daughter-in-law, Freda Grant, two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her children, Ralph (Geraldine), Canterbury, Donald Jr. (Brenda), Harvey, Lester (Patricia), Canterbury, Sharon Smith (Allison), Canterbury and Cyril (Miriam), Canterbury; a sister, Ruth Denyer, St. Stephen; a sister-in-law, Joyce McCracken, St. Stephen; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Resting at her home, 187 Main Street, Canterbury with visiting hours Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 3 p.m. at St. Mark's United Church, Canterbury with Rev. Dr. Beverly C. S. Brazier officiating. Interment in Canterbury Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Grant and Everett Wright. Active pallbearers will be Dale Scott, Gerry English, Frank Carvell and grandsons, Paul Smith, Robert Smith and Matthew Grant.
