DOUGLAS DAVID LANCASTER

LANCASTER, DOUGLAS DAVID Doug Lancaster passed away January 9, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Sampson) Lancaster. He was in his 66th year. Doug served in the Canadian Armed Forces for almost 29 years, retiring as Warrant Officer in 1986. He joined the military in 1958 and did Depot Training at Sussex, New Brunswick and served with battalions of The Black Watch and The Royal Canadian Regiment. After three tours in Cyprus he served with the RCR at Baden, West Germany. After his military retirement Doug was employed with CE, CFB Gagetown, then as RSM of the Argonaut Cadet Program and for several years as groomsman at Lindsay Valley, CFB Gagetown. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Oromocto Branch 93. Doug was an avid, competitive sportsman. Over the years, baseball, hockey, fishing, hunting and skiing were just some sports of his choice but none came close to Doug's love for the game of golf. Doug will be missed by his wife of 49 years, Judy (Inglis), daughter Paula (Terry Bullock) of Newfoundland and Labrador, daughter Beverly (Randy Martin), Burton, NB and son Barry (Louise Thompson), Ottawa, six grandchildren, Amanda Lancaster (Jeff Budaker), Robbie de la Penotiere, Alicia Lancaster (Shawn Glover), Bradley Lancaster, Anna and Lydia Bullock, one great-grandson Jacob Glover, his brother Jim Lancaster, sister-in-law Brenda (Lawson), his sister Noreen and brother-in-law Bob Brownrigg, aunts Evangeline Foster and Beatrice Sampson, two nieces, four nephews and several cousins. Cremation has taken place. At Doug's request there will be no service. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at the Gage Golf and Curling Club on Saturday, January 13 from 1-4 p.m. A Black Watch Tribute will be held at 2 p.m.
