Agnes Holden passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the Coteau Range Manor, Avonlea, Sask. at the age of 95. She was born on the family farm at Hearne, Sask. on August 11, 1913. She attended Peachy School in the area and completed some high school by correspondence, writing exams in Briercrest, Sask. She was active in ball and played the organ for Hearne Church. She went on to Moose Jaw where she worked for Dr. & Mrs. Gordon Young and the Blackwood Hardware. She met Jim Holden at a dance at Temple Gardens. He was an English Airman stationed at the base. They were married in 1942. She followed him overseas and they came back to Hearne after the war in 1945. They lived a short time in Bayard and Hearne and Jim worked at the Brick Plant at Claybank. He then got a job with the CPR and moved to Moose Jaw where they raised their two girls. Agnes was active in Grace United Church. She played the piano for Sunday School and the organ part time for church. Jim passed away in 1989 and Agnes continued living in Moose Jaw until moving to Avonlea in 2001 to be near to her daughter. She became a resident of the Manor in 2006. She is survived by two daughters: Irene (Willie) Paicu and Sheila (Doug) Fix; four grandchildren: Shawna (Ken) Fuchs, Randy (Cara) Paicu, Tyler (Sarah) Paicu and Guy Fix; three great-grandchildren: Trayton Paicu, Jake Paicu and Grace Paicu and two great step-grandchildren: Caitlyn and Cole Fuchs; sisters: Andrea Kissner, Florence Daniel and brother, Glen (Ollie) Moen and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband James, her mother and father Nellie and Andrew Moen; brothers: Peter, Nels and Noel Moen; sisters: Julia Moen, Anna Meyers, Mable Anderson, Bertha Moen, Lillian Nagel, Gladys Shea and Francis Moen and one grandchild, Ryan Paicu. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will take place Sunday evening, 7-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Coteau Range Manor Memorial Fund, Avonlea, Sask., S0H 0C0.
