May Reed 1907 - 2008 May passed away peacefully, with her dear friend Stella Gill by her side, at Union Hospital, Moose Jaw on Saturday, September 20th at the age of 101 years. She is predeceased by her husband Simon Peter and a son, Gordon Lee in infancy. Loving mother of Dr. Ian Gilmore of Toronto and Dr. Paul Gilmore of Kitchener, she was the proud grandmother of Christopher and Nicholas Gilmore and Dr. William and Robert Gilmore and two great-grandchildren Halie and Mathew Gilmore. May spent much of her life as a music teacher, church organist and accompanist for a wide variety of programs in Moose Jaw and area. A private family graveside service will precede a Memorial Service to celebrate May's life on Saturday, September 27th, 2:00 p.m. at the W.J. Jones & Son Family Centre, 262 Athabasca Street, E. Donald Jones Funeral Director Elford, Leon Willis (Bud). Leon Willis (Bud) Elford passed away in Moose Jaw, SK. after a lengthy illness, on Saturday, September 20th 2008. Bud, in his 84th year, beloved husband of Marjorie for over 61 years. Devoted and loving father of Roan (Pat) of Prince Albert SK., Kit (Debbie) of Billings MT., Terry Wolverton (Leigh) of Caronport SK. Bud's memory will be cherished by his 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, by his brother Ken, and sisters Ruth Culley (Wally), Kay Mallet, and Jean Fields (Slim). Bud was born to William and Bella Elford on the 23rd of September 1924 on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. He enlisted to serve his country at an early age, and was involved in active duty on D-Day. Upon his return following WWII, he returned to Canada where he met and married Marjorie Jordanoff. He attended the London College of Bible and Missions where he graduated with a B.TH. Bud had a heart for missions and invested his life to serving God in ministry to the Dene (Chipewyan), First Nations People, with the Northern Canada Evangelical Mission (N.C E. M.). He played a pivotal role developing the Dene literacy program and translation of scriptures and hymns. From 1979 to 1989, he served as the General Director for N.C.E.M. Following his retirement in 1989 Bud and Marge moved back to Cherry Grove, AB and continued to serve as honorary missionaries with N.C.E.M., eventually settling in Caronport in 2004. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 28th, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in the Hildebrand Chapel with an interment service to follow at Caronport Cemetery. (306) 694-5500 www.parkviewmoosejaw.com De Baeremaeker Charlie Julien De Baeremaeker of Providence Place, Moose Jaw passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20th, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. Charlie was born on February 13th, 1923 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. He married Margaret Isobel Costain (deceased) in Toronto, Ontario in 1954. They had 3 daughters Charlene De Baeremaeker of Regina, Betty Nesbitt (Harry and daughters Jessica and Jillian) of Perth, Australia and Alice Hill (Humphrey) of Moose Jaw. All will miss him dearly. Charlie proudly served in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces as a Pharmacist and retired from CFB Moose Jaw in 1976. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a peace keeper with the UN in Egypt. Charlie's family wish to express their thanks and gratitude for the wonderful care provided by the staff at Providence Place and The Bentley. A Celebration of Life Tea will be held at Providence Place on Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at later date. Bryan Mantell April 29, 1938 - September 20, 2008 Bryan Mantell passed away naturally while enjoying the autumn morning of September 20th as he was hunting on the land overlooking where he had farmed for so many years. Bryan's wife Dorothy, daughter Denise along with Lyle, and Denise's children Mindy and Stacy; and daughter Sherry, husband David and their children Crystal and Derek will miss him dearly. His warm smile, his wit and gentle encouragement will be an inspiration to us all. Bryan and Dorothy's home was always a gathering place for friends and family and Bryan often led the smiles and laughter that filled the house while he sat comfortably in his kitchen chair. Bryan's life long friend Ab Erskine frequently spurred him on and the merriment made memories that will never be forgotten. We can all thank Bryan for showing us the value in sharing time with our loved ones. Family was always an important part of his life and he was always in close touch with his brother George (predeceased), wife Irene and surviving brother Jack, wife Wilma, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Bryan's life will be celebrated during a come and go tea on Thursday, September 25, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The location of the gathering will be at the Legion Hall located at 268 High Street West.
