McGRATH, EDGAR JOHN JOSEPH (BCOMM, RIA CD) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Edgar J, Sonny McGrath of Oromocto, NB formerly of Halifax, NS on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the age of 76. Edgar passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Stella Marie (Gabriel) McGrath, Four daughters Shirley and Wendy of Oromocto, NB: Heather (Georges) Roy of Edmundston, NB and Theresa (Paul) Halbot of Oromocto, NB: grandchildren Martin Green (Anna) of Elora, ON; Michael Roy of Edmundston, NB: Todd and Charlotte Halbot of Oromocto NB; Russell McGrath-Lovell of Yellowknife, NT and one great-granddaughter, Autumn Green; brothers, Francis, John and Michael as well as sisters, Barbara, Theresa and Jacqueline. Predeceased by his parents Edgar (Hec) Michael and Emma Mae (Davies) McGrath, sisters Shirley, Carolyn and Constance Marie. Edgar was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, retired major Canadian Armed Forces (former Base Comptroller, CFB Gagetown), and alumnus of St. Mary's University, where he was a noted athlete and diving champion. He had many hobbies including woodworking, gardening, photography, painting, computers, and bird watching. He was a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs and OMHA fan. Edgar was a volunteer on the VON Board and a member of the Oromocto Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93. He spent many happy years at his cottage at Maquapit Lake. To all of his children and grandchildren, Papa was the best father and grandfather in the world. He will also be greatly missed by his four-legged friends Champ and Paddy. Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Friday May 4th 2007, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Saturday May 5th, 2007 at 11:00 am Rev. Ken Weir as celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Vincent de Paul cemetery.
