NORMAN WILLIARD SMYTHE
SMYTHE, NORMAN WILLIARD Norman Smythe of Halifax, NS, formerly of St. Stephen, NB, died on June 7, 2007, at the QE II Hospital in Halifax, NS. He was born May 28, 1955, the son of the late Hazen W. and W. Irene (Beckerton) Smythe. He was born and raised in St. Stephen, NB and graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1973, attended the University of New Brunswick (1973-74) and Holland College, Charlottetown, PEI (1976-77). He was a car salesman in St. Stephen (1973-75); a property assessor with the Province of New Brunswick in Moncton (1977-78); a Customs Inspector with Revenue Canada in McAdam, NB (1979-1980). In 1980, he moved to Halifax, NS where, prior to his illness, he was employed as a Senior Property Agent with the Federal Department of Public Works. He enjoyed spending time with his friends in Halifax and at his camp on the Magaguadavic River, Brockway, NB. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Irene and a brother, William Edward, who both died in their infancy. He is survived by four sisters, Marilyn (Sandy) Clarke, Marine Del Rey, Cal., Margo (Carl) Scribner, Fort Meyers, FL, Frances (Don) Flanagan, Peterborough, ON, Mary Jane (John) Ferguson, Cornwall, ON; and four brothers, Robert (Debbie) Smythe, St. Stephen, NB, David (Georgette) Smythe, Riverview, NB, Gerry (Carla) Smythe, St. Stephen, NB, Ross (Jenona) Smythe, Fredericton, NB; various nieces and nephews; and by his aunt, Sarah McLaren, Petitcodiac, NB. He will be missed by his many friends. His body has been donated for medical education and research. A memorial service will be held at the Prince George Hotel (Regency Room), in Halifax, NS, on Sunday, June 10, 2007, commencing at 1 pm. A further memorial will be held in St. Stephen, NB at a later date. Donations in Norm's memory may be made to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation and to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre Foundation (QE II Foundation) or to any charity of the donors choice.
