LESLIE PARNELL

PARNELL, LESLIE The death of Leslie Parnell of New Zion occurred Friday, June 29th, 2007 at the Queen's North Community Health Centre. Mr. Parnell was a long time friend & partner of Helen Marie (Murphy) Babineau of New Zion. He was born at Halifax, NS on June 23, 1927, the last son of the late Fanny Ann (Gilbert) Parnell, his beloved mother. He saw duty at the age of 16 in the Merchant Navy during the 2nd W.W., after which he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and also saw duty in Korea. He put in over 22 years in the Special Forces. After retirement he then worked at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery as a security officer for 10 years. Les was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 4, Fredericton for over 30 years and then transferred to Branch No.12, Minto. He was also a member of the Minto Seniors Club for a number of years where he loved to dance with his wonderful partner, Helen, to the very good music of Johnny Arsenault and his band. He also loved to fish and hunt along with golfing and bowling and he was very inclined at woodworking. He was a really active person. Mr. Parnell was the last of the Parnell clan from Nova Scotia, all his relatives had passed on. Although he had no family of his own, he had a whole lot of good friends. Les requested there be no visitation or funeral service. Friends and comrades are invited to attend a tribute service at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 12, Minto on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007 at 2:00 PM.
