He was 86 years old. Ernie was born at the St.Luke's Hospital in Ottawa on September 15, 1920. He was the son of the late Alfred Nathaniel and Mary Evelyn (Troughton ). He was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Melanie in 2005. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is sadly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie (Lille) Germaine St. Amour and his daughter Lauring and husband Stanley McNutt of Smiths Creek, N.B. He is also survived by Melanie's children, Kaylum Piercy, Kristen and Chadwick Foreman; and several nieces and nephews. Also by his companions, his two Labrador retrievers, Hartley and Chloe. Ernie was a Veteran of W.W. II serving in Holland. He came home and married his pretty finance, Lille settling in Montreal for ten years. He was then transferred to Base Gagetown and helped open the Base in 1956. He was an electrical engineer and did refrigeration for all the new P.M.Q,'s that were being built. He retired in 1970. Ernie's love was dogs. He bred Labrador retrievers and miniature poodles. He had many champions and had the second highest scoring dog in Canada two years in a row. He was an all breed judge and judged at dog shows all across Canada including the Show of Shows in Toronto. He held obedience classes for dogs for 35 years in the basement of the old "Steinberg's" Grocery Store at the Oromocto Shopping Plaza before building an addition to his boarding kennels at his home in Lower Lincoln. Ernie's proudest moment was when Queen Elizabeth II stopped at his kennels in 1976 to say "hello" to the lab puppy he had purchased from her. "Royal" jumped in the limousine. That was Dad's 10 minutes of fame! Ernie enjoyed playing a variety of sports including hockey, curling, golf, and lawn bowling just to mention a few and won many trophies. He followed his favorite hockey team the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Team and never missed a game on T.V. He was a member of so many organizations. He was a long standing member with the Oromocto Legion Branch #93. He was the past president of the Epsilon Y's Men Club, the Parkinson's Society and the Fredericton Lawn Bowling Club. He was a charter member of and presently president of the Oromocto Kennel Club. He was also a charter member of the River Valley Obedience and Trial Club, the Fredericton Direct Charge Co- Op, and Wesley United Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and attending the Men's Club. Ernie enjoyed talking to everyone he met! He enjoyed meeting his lawn bowling buddies at "Mama's Pub" for lunch twice a month. He especially enjoyed talking to all the girls at the Co-Op when he did his grocery shopping. His family remembers him as a gentle and loving person, always ready with a warm smile and a piece of advice. His daughter was so proud of him with his abundant knowledge, intelligence and quiet strength. He was a tremendous man. Thank- you to all those who touched Ernie's life in a special way including all those who work at the Co-Op, especially the bakery girls, Mike and Margaret of the Pharmacy, Jackie Hiscock his caregiver, Dr. Grant and Misti of 3NW.
