MURRAY ROBERT MAY NASON
NASON, MURRAY ROBERT MAY 21, 1925 - AUGUST 14, 2007 It is with great sadness that the family of Murray Robert Nason announces his sudden passing on August 14th 2007. Murray is lovingly remembered by his dear wife, Jean (nee Cameron); his children Kathleen Nason, Sandra Nason, Joe Nason and Mike Nason; Jean's children, Deborah Leighton, Robert Dunseith, Heather Cameron and Catherine Dunseith; their partners; many cherished grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and Jean's family in Ireland. Murray is also survived by his beloved sister, Jean Clark, as well as many extended family members. Murray was predeceased by his brother Carl Nason. Murray was born in Tracy, New Brunswick, the son of the village carpenter. After serving in the RCAF, he moved on to his chosen career in construction. He quickly became a senior manager on many major projects across Canada, including the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Welland Canal, and the grain terminals in Thunder Bay. In 1965, Murray founded M.R. Nason Construction Ltd. which continues in business as McLean Young Construction Ltd. Nason Construction built many of our city's landmark facilities. Murray was instrumental in founding other construction companies: L.A. Nason Contracting, Johnson Builders, Nason Contracting Group, as well as Clark Builders. The number of businesses that Murray fostered is a reflection of his qualities as a leader, builder and mentor. Murray touched many lives through his generous involvement in community groups, including the Probus Club, PC Alberta and most recently the Sturgeon Valley Trail Association. His leadership and energy in the development of the recreational trail system east of St. Albert will be a lasting legacy for the community he loved. Two of Murray's greatest loves were people and music. At any gathering, Murray could be found at the piano leading the group in song. Murray's family wishes to thank the staff of 7 East at the Misericordia Hospital for their efforts and compassion during his last hours. A memorial service and celebration of Murray's life will be held at Connelly-McKinley Sherwood Park - Millwoods Funeral Home, on Saturday August 18, 2007 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
