Born and raised in the Crestwynd district, Dad left school to work wherever jobs were available. He spent some time at the U of S studying agriculture. Returning to Crestwynd, he met his wife-to-be Bernetta Minard, the teacher at Windcrest school and they were married on Nov. 12, 1941. Dad belonged to the Army Reserves before joining the Air Force. They made their home in Gimli, Centralia and Calgary before returning to the Crestwynd district to farm. They moved to Crestwynd in 1951 where Dad built their first new home. Dad was a farmer at heart and could fix anything. He was an active member of the community, serving as both counselor and reeve of RM of Hillsborough for a number of years, working on the health board, school board and Wheat Pool as well as helping with any community activity. Dad also drove the school bus for years. In 1986 they moved to Moose Jaw. In retirement Dad and Mom traveled extensively. Rock hounding was a passion and they made many trips looking for that "special" rock. He loved sports, square dancing, 5 pin and lawn bowling, playing cards and visiting with friends. Our Mom, wife Bernetta was the light of his life. He was proud of his children, grandchildren and their accomplishments and thoroughly enjoyed his great-granddaughter. Dad was much loved and will be sorely missed. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Chez Nous for their wonderful care of Dad for his time there. For him it was like coming home. Thanks to Dr. Hugo for his care during Dad's last weeks. Special thanks to Dad's nephew Bob for his care and companionship.
