KENNETH EDMUND GILLISS
GILLISS, KENNETH EDMUND Retired Deputy Executive Director of the NB Teachers Association Kenneth Gilliss died peacefully on October 30th, 2007 at age 82 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Kenneth was born November 16th, 1924 in Chatham, NB to the late Lee and Nellie Gilliss. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife Geraldine (Channon) Gilliss; three sons, Michael Gilliss (Roxena Goodine) of Blind Bay, BC, Christopher Gilliss (Karen Perry) of Toronto, ON, and Lee Gilliss of Fredericton; two daughters, Mary Gilliss of Halifax, NS, and Ann Gilliss (Robert Perkins) of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Scott, Lisa, Roberta, Alexandra, and Kevin; two sisters, Lenore Masterson and Shirley Lynch, both of Miramichi, NB and was predeceased by his two brothers, Merle and Burt Gilliss. In 1945 he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Halifax. Kenneth received his Bachelor of Arts in English from St. Thomas University and his Master of Arts in English from the University of New Brunswick. He worked as a teacher for 13 years and then for 25 years as Deputy Executive Director of the New Brunswick Teachers' Association. He was a very devoted husband to his first wife Kathleen (Kay) Scott for 30 years as well as to his current wife, Geraldine Channon, with whom he spent the last 29 years of his life. Kenneth and Geraldine commuted between Ottawa and Fredericton throughout their marriage but he was always a proud resident of New Brunswick. Kenneth and Geraldine traveled extensively throughout Canada, the U.S. and the Caribbean. At a young age he was quite the artist. He loved to sing, and was especially fond of songs from Newfoundland. He loved his gardening, fishing, and was an avid armchair sports fan. Kenneth was a wonderful storyteller with a great love for literature and a fine sense of humour. He could quote Robert Service's poems at great length. He leaves behind many joyful memories shared with all the lives he touched. He was modest about his talents, was the most generous of men, and was very proud of his family. Visitation will take place at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, November 1st, 2007 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 2nd, 2007 from the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with Rev. Monte Peters officiating. Interment will take place at the Hermitage Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated and donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
