ODELIE MARIE PAUL

PAUL, ODELIE MARIE (1911-2007) Odelie Marie Paul (nee Couturier) passed away peacefully on December 20, 2007 in her 96th year after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born January 3, 1911 in St-Joseph-de-Madawaska, New Brunswick, second of 13 children. Odelie graduated from the New Brunswick Normal School for Teachers in Fredericton, New Brunswick and taught French in Edmundston, Minto and Fredericton for over 40 years, retiring when she was 60. Besides teaching, Odelie also had a passion for embroidery, needlework and especially painting, something she carried on throughout her life. Marrying a former shoe store manager and traveling salesman, John Paul, on December 25, 1942, they celebrated more than 50 years of marriage before he passed away in 1998. Odelie had two children, both of whom died well before their time. Their first daughter, Julianna, died in a car accident at the age of four, and their second daughter, Jane Ann, who they adopted in 1950, lost her battle with cancer in 2000. Odelie is survived by her brothers, Fernand and Reginald; sisters, Lucienne and Thérèse. She will be greatly missed by her family, her grandson Mark Atkinson (Rebecca Muller) and son-in-law Wayne Atkinson (d. Jane Ann), as well as by many nieces, nephews and former students. Friends may call at the Murray E. Newbigging Funeral Home, 733 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto on December 23, 2007 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. A funeral mass and celebration of Odelie's life will be held on December 24, 2007 at St. Ann's Church, 120 First Street, Toronto, Ontario at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
