MINNIE H. JEWETT
JEWETT, MINNIE H. The death of Minnie H. Jewett occurred at Cheryl Smith Special Care Home in Ripples NB, on Friday, January 4th, 2008. Born in Sheffield, NB in 1917 to the late John P. and Sarah L. (Taylor) Jewett. Minnie attended school in Sheffield, graduating from Provincial Normal in 1936. She taught school for thirty-six years retiring in 1972. The first 25 years of her teaching career was spent in rural schools in various parts of the providence, teaching grades one to eight inclusive. She was Principal of the Maugerville Consolidated School for five years and finished her teaching career in St. Stephen. Mini was a member of the Sheffield United Church where she was an Elder and Steward and took a great interest in all church activities. Since moving to Fredericton in 1987, she attended Wilmot United Church. She was a life member of the Sheffield UCW, a member of the Central Branch of the Retired Teacher's Association and a member of the Wilmot Seniors Club. She was chosen to go on the Beaverbrook Tour to Scotland and England along with twenty-four other teachers in 1959. That gave her the urge to travel upon retirement. She enjoyed many tour groups, traveling to various parts of the world. Minnie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survived by special friends, Cheryl and Warren Smith and several cousins. She is predeceased by her parents; one brother, Egerton Jewett; and one sister, Mary Jewett. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:30 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Sheffield United Church on January 7, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Bob Jones and Rev. Ruth Stuart will officiate. Pall bearers will be Donna Emberley, Irene Middleton, Bonnie Bridges, Brenda Kennedy, Charlotte Upton and Verley Bridges Interment will be in the Sheffield United Church Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to Sheffield United Church Cemetery Fund, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation, NB Heart and Stroke or the charity of the donor's choice. www.mcadamsfh.com
