EDNA RITA FISHER
FISHER, EDNA RITA Edna Rita Fisher passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Monday, January 7, 2008. Born in Sydney Mines, NS, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Esther (Hollett) MacKinnon. Edna was raised in Woodville, NS. She graduated from the Truro Teachers College in 1928, teaching in Kingston, NS, where she met and married Ira Fisher in 1940. Moving to Saint John in 1951, she taught school in Lorneville, Melford and Westfield, retiring after many years of service. Edna enjoyed teaching, travelling, church and seniors groups. She was a strong supporter of the United Church and was past president of the U.C.W. and the Women's Institute. Surviving are sons, Roderick Fisher (Debby Graham), Calgary, David Fisher, Saint John, Jack Fisher, Saint John; daughters, Dianne (Sam) Goucher, Annapolis Royal, NS, Joan (Bob) Hewey, Fredericton; daughters- in-law, Carol Fisher and Beth Fisher, Saint John; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by husband, Ira Fisher; son, Ronald Fisher; sisters, Anne (Bob) Parker and Muriel MacKinnon; brothers, Douglas and William. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 10, 2008 from 7 to 9 pm, at Castle Funeral Home "Fallsview" Chapel, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John. Funeral service will be held, Friday, January 11, 2008 at 1 pm at St. Mark's United Church, Dexter Drive. Interment to follow service at the Oceanview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
