J. S. (SONNY) HARE
HARE, J. S. (SONNY) 1933-2008. Miramichi, N.B., Joseph Sterling (Sonny) Hare, husband of Lois Hare, of the Bartholomew Road, Blackville, passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at the age of 74. Born in Newcastle, on March 12, 1933, he was the son of the late Amos and Edith (McLean) Hare. He was Roman Catholic by Faith and was involved in law enforcement for most all of his working career, commencing with the Newcastle Police Force, the Dept. of Highways (weights & measures div.) and the N.B. Highway Patrol. Following his retirement from law enforcement, he and his wife, Lois established the Half Way Inn Restaurant and Cabins, on the Plaster Rock / Renous highway, where Sonny could persue his love of the outdoors and cater to the needs of their guests and customers, which included hunters, fishermen, snowmobilers, truckers and tourists. Sonny was truly in his element with anything pertaining to the outdoors, wildlife and nature. He was a big man with a huge heart. He is survived by his wife, the former Lois McEvoy; one daughter, Rev. Judith Hare, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; three sons, Kevin Hare (Stacy), of Whitneyville, Chris Hare (Jackie), of Miramichi and Dennis Hare (Cheryl), of South Esk; one step daughter, Tracey Rabbe, of Calgary, Alberta; two sisters, Margaret Bertrand, of South Esk and Susan Kingston (Richard), of Whitneyville; two brothers, Ernest Hare (Patricia) and Reg Hare (Susan), all of Miramichi; four grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Dennis and Amos Hare. By Sonny's request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. The public are invited to attend a memorial service to be held from Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Monday, February 4, 2008, at 2 pm. Interment will be later in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Diabetic Assoc., or any charity of the donors' choice, would be appreciated by the family.
