REDMOND, MALCOLM ABBOTT Malcolm Abbott Redmond passed away peacefully at his home on February 5th, 2008 in Fredericton, NB. He was born in New Gloucester, Maine on September 15th, 1932. Mal graduated from South Portland Schools and the University of Maine and then entered the United States Navy in 1951 to 1959. He married Goldie Marie Palmer, the love of his life, on September 6th, 1969 in Lincoln, Maine. She predeceased him on December 9th, 2002. Most of Mal's career life was devoted to management and conservation of fish, as a Fisheries Biologist. He started in Orono, Maine in the Department of Inland Fisheries and Game. In 1968, he accepted a position with the Department of Natural Resources in Fredericton, NB, in the Fish and Wildlife Branch. He continued his career until his retirement in 1992. Mal was an avid sportsman. He was very educated in regards to the Atlantic Salmon and native brook trout and handled more Atlantic Salmon in his line of work than one can imagine. He spent a lot of time in the woods and on the waters here in New Brunswick. Many people still remember his name. He tied flies for over 60 years, collected vintage tackle and was a very skilled wood carver of fish, ducks and shore birds. Mal also hunted birds but his true passion was Salmon fishing. Mal is survived by his daughter, Lynn Goguen (Ben) of Fredericton, NB; his oldest brother, Russell (Elinor) of Dallas, Texas; and 13 nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Phil E. and Gladys Russell, he is predeceased by his brothers, Phil E. "Bud", Paul and Richard Perry; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Yolanda. A Celebration of Life will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on February 13th, 2008 from 2 to 4 pm with light refreshments. Mal's final resting place will be in Hanover, Maine Cemetery with a Military graveside service on August 2nd, 2008 at 10:30 am and a Celebration of Life to follow.
