PEARL DOROTHY (NEE DEGRASSE) SEARLES
SEARLES, PEARL DOROTHY (NEE DEGRASSE) Surrounded by the love and affection of family and the wonderful compassion of caregivers at Farraline Place, Fredericton, Pearl passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2008. Pearl was born in Montreal, QC on November 23rd, 1916, moved to New Brunswick as a teenager and spent her adult life in Fredericton. In her working years, Pearl clerked and supervised in a number of Fredericton retail outlets and was widely known in the community for her sense of service and polite efficiency. She gave generously of her time to such worthy causes as The Imperial Rebekah Lodge, 102, The Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, and Wilmot United Church UCW. Never comfortable on the "receiving" end, Pearl supported each organization with countless hours volunteering in the service of others, from which she took great pleasure. Throughout her life, her greatest joys were in the roles of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents, Sanford and Blanche DeGrasse; an infant brother Paul, a brother, Earle DeGrasse; a sister, Violet (James) Cashen; as well as her loving husband, Keith ("Lefty") Searles. She is survived by her son Ronald (Gail Dunlap); a grandson, Gregory Searles (Shelley Foster) of Saint John, NB; a granddaughter, Andrea (Shawn) Bower of Calgary, AB; great-grandchildren, Freddie and Georgia Searles, and Katie Bower; a sister Ruby (Russell) Thompson of Sheffield; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and a special friend Ferne Bowie. The family will receive visitors at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton on Sunday, March 9th, 2008 from 1 to 6 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Ladies Auxiliary will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 PM. The funeral service will take place in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 2 PM with Lena Medeiros officiating. A reception will take place in the adjoining room immediately following the service. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, and in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made to the Wilmot United Church, The Farraline Place or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. www.mcadamsfh.com
