
ETHEL HICKSON
HICKSON, ETHEL Passed away March 19 in her 91st year at her residence, Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, New Brunswick. Born in 1916 at Barkers Point, NB, Ethel was a lifelong resident of Fredericton and for many years enjoyed a great deal of time at her cottage at Lake George. During the Second World War, Ethel, managed the National Shoe Store in Fredericton and later worked at Levine's Department store from where she retired. A gracious, kind and helpful person who was ever the optimist, Ethel's greatest love was her family. Her wonderful sense of humour endeared her to many and this trait was particularly enjoyed by the Kiwanis staff who held Ethel with a large measure of affection. Survived by her son, Kenneth (Karla) of Kingston, NB; daughter, Arda (Chris) Halls, London, England; as well as grandchildren, Haley Bettle (Chris), Sussex, NB, Daniel Halls, Saint John, NB, Adam Halls, London, England; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan Sands and Sara Sands, of Sussex, NB. Her brother, Allan Rice, Noonan, NB and sister, Ruby Sleep, Welland, Ontario, also survive her. Her husband, Billie Hickson; brothers, Douglas and Hayward Rice; and sisters, Rose McMaster and Leona Biggs, predeceased Ethel. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service will take place at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton on Saturday, March 22nd, 2008 at 4:00 PM with Rev. H.G. MacKenzie officiating. A reception will take place in the adjoining room immediately following the funeral service. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date.
