NORMAN EUGENE TRAFTON
TRAFTON, NORMAN EUGENE At the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital on April 25, 2008, Rev. Norman E. Trafton of Fredericton passed away at the age of 95. Born in Hartland, NB on March 3, 1913. He was a son of the late Percy and Myra (Hamilton) Trafton and was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy as well as his second wife Jean. Norman graduated from high school and was called to the ministry attending Ontario Bible College. Ordained as a minister of the Gospel with Reformed Baptist Church in 1938 at Beulah Camp, while attending ENC, he was part of the College Quartet, he also supplied preaching at an Evangelical Friends Church in Newport, RI from 1938-1946 where he met his first wife, Dorothy, who he married in September 1946. Norman's ministerial life took him to Evangilism with the Ambassadors from 1946-1948; Truro, NS from 1948-1951; President of Bethany Bible College from 1951-1954; Denomenational Superintendent from 1954-1956; Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church in Fredericton from 1956-1962; Professor at Bethany Bible College from 1962-1967; Fredericton First from 1967-1973; Olivet Wesleyan Church in Marysville from 1973-1983; Burtt's Corner Church of Christ until 2005. The last two years he spent living at Rita's Retreat in Burton and conducted a service once a month for the residents. He was an avid fisherman as his father before him and took up the game of golf in 1980 which he played up until a few years ago. He had a great love for reading, he was still reading 3 to 4 books a week up until April 20, 2008. Norman is survived by his son, Robert and his wife Martha of Sussex; three daughters, Norma and her husband Wayne Cliff of Fredericton, Elizabeth and her husband Keith Young of Fredericton, Deborah and her husband Jim Riley of Fredericton; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Norman was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been also predeceased by a brother, Alfred; and three sisters, Dorothy Untz, Emma Dow and Marguerite Trafton. Resting at the First Wesleyan Church on Duncan Lane in Fredericton on Tuesday April 29, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday April 30, 2008 at 2:00 pm with Rev. David LeRoy officiating, assisted by Rev. Karl Ingersoll.
