Walter Leonard Jewsbury quietly passed away January 2, 2009 at the age of 86. Walter was born in Moose Jaw on May 23, 1922. He had a lengthy career with CP Rail, also living in Thunder Bay and Winnipeg and upon retirement in 1982, returned to Moose Jaw. He was a loyal and dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion, serving in various positions including two terms as President and a long association with the Poppy Fund. Walt enjoyed playing sports, bowling and curling, but particularly enjoyed playing and watching golf. In later years he especially enjoyed "the group of four" card games at the Legion. He also loved walking in Wakamow with his buddy Budha! Walter was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Walter; first wife Jackie; sister Margaret and brother-in-law Jimmy Sampson; sister Gladys; sister Flo and brother-in-law Harold Humberstone; brother Ken; brothers-in-law: Andy Stouse, Casmir Banks and Bob Mooney; sister-in-law Ellen (Eugene) Elliot and niece Honor Mooney. Walter is survived by wife Kathleen; daughters: Jackie (Bob) Calvert and Janice; sister Grace Stouse; sisters-in-law: Velma Jewsbury and Joyce Mooney; brother-in-law: Walter Banks; extended family: Chuck (Vivian), Tim (Sue), Jeff (Debbie), Arlene (John), Maureen (Dennis) and Greg; brothers-in-law Art (Joyce), Don (Lyd), Ken (Maxine) and Ruben (Joan); sisters-in-law: Anne (Ken), Marj and Joyce; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as family in England. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Betty Bradley will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Roscoe Steele of Moose Jaw Branch #59. At the family's request, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, c/o 268 High Street West, Moose Jaw, S6H 1S8, the Regina Renal Clinic, c/o Regina General Hospital, 1440 14th Avenue, Regina, S4P 0W5, or to a charity of one's choice.
