PHYLLIS "MONTIE" M. MONTAGNON
MONTAGNON, PHYLLIS "MONTIE" M. The passing of Phyllis "Montie" Marguerite Montagnon occurred Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Veteran's Health Unit, Fredericton. She was 93. Born August 28, 1915 in Fredericton, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Robert Sidney Wilby and Vida L. (MacCutcheon) Wilby. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association having taught school in Upper Blackville, Lower Hainesville and Central Knowlesville, NB. Phyllis was a graduate of Fredericton Teachers College (former Provincial Normal School). She was also a member of the Northern California Nurses Association. She was Baptist by faith and was a member of the United Church Women in Kingsley, NB. Phyllis was a supporter of many youth groups and also belonged to many church and political groups. Phyllis was also a member of the "Get Together Club" at the Brunswick Street Baptist Church. She had a great love for animals. Phyllis was a Life Member of the British Legion since 1953; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No.4, Fredericton; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.4 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Honorary Adopted Member of the Ladies Auxiliary. In 2005 she was presented with Honorary Wings from Col. C.J.R. Davis for her loyal services as a Packer-Rigger during the Second World War. She served in the C.W.A.C. during the Second World War rising to the rank of Staff Captain. She was a member of the Progressive Conservative Association, the Kidney Foundation, the Governor Carleton Chapter of I.O.D.E. and was a Life Member of the Fredericton S.P.C.A. She has been a registered Scoutmaster # 1423 since 1936. Survived by a nephew Robert Garfield Wilby and nieces Roslynn and Susan Wilby all of P.E.I. Her parents; a brother Robert Vernon Wilby; a sister-in-law Ray Barbara (Hamilton) Wilby and her stepfather Major Walter Blair all predeceased her. The request by Phyllis that no visitation or service be held will be respected. Cremation will be held. The family would appreciate contributions to the Fredericton S.P.C.A., the Veteran's Health Unit (Bus Fund) or the Grace Memorial United Baptist Church Building Fund.
