GERALD WINSTON REED
REED, GERALD WINSTON It was with a mixture of sadness and great rejoicing that we announce the passing of Gerald Winston Reed of Keswick Ridge, NB. After suffering from a brief illness, Gerald was surrounded by two generations of his loving family as he went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Gerald was married to Shirley (Hallett) Reed and was the son of the late William and Alice (Wiggins) Reed. He was born on April 4, 1924, and was employed by Diamond Construction, New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, and was a long time apple grower. Gerald was a member of the Island View Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, choir member, and a Sunday School Teacher. He was a Gideons International member for over 50 years a former member of the Orange Lodge, a founding member of Keswick Ridge Local Service District and a War Memorial Committee chairman for over 30 years. He sang in a men's gospel quartet and enjoyed summer camping with his family at Brandy Pond, Maine. In his later years, Gerald developed an enjoyment of oil painting. Second only to his love of his family, Gerald loved his apple orchard and woodlot. He was a committed father, husband and he adored his grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 52 years, Shirley, Gerald, is survived by his daughters, Leitha (James) Fraser of Pine Falls, MB, Charlotte (Ian) Davis of Pittsburg, PA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Fraser, Victoria and William Davis; several nieces and nephews; numerous friends and cousins. Besides his parents, Gerald was predeceased by sister, Ruth A. Reed; infant brother, Eric. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the physicians and staff of the ICU at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital who compassionately cared for Gerald in his final days. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, November 23, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Mactaquac Baptist Church on Monday, November 24, 2008, at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Eric Hallett and Pastor Chad Fletcher assisting. Interment will take place in Pickard Merrithew Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Gideons International or the charity of the donor's choice.
