EVELYN MARGARETTE FURLONG

FURLONG, EVELYN MARGARETTE The passing of Evelyn Margarette Furlong, wife of the late Raymond J. Furlong, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on November 24, 2008 at her home. Born on November 18, 1922 in Fredericton, she was a daughter of the late Preston and Maggie (Pond) Duncan. Evelyn moved to Ottawa out of high school and worked for the Federal Government during the war. She returned to Fredericton in the 1960's where she worked for the Provincial Government. She was married to Raymond Furlong in December of 1972. Evelyn was a member of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church, the WMS and a choir member for over 40 years. She was the past president of the Order of the Royal Purple, # 202, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 4, the Ladies Auxilary for over 40 years. She enjoyed playing piano, singing, knitting and travelling. She was devoted to her church and family. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Gamble of Ottawa, ON; her son, Bruce Gamble of Vancouver, BC; step-sons, Michael Furlong (Cheryl), Paul Furlong (Kay) and Jimmy Furlong all of Fredericton, NB; step-daughter, Theresa Enman of Fredericton; sister, Roma "Dolly" of Oromocto, NB; brothers, Donald Duncan (Francis) of New Glasgow, NS and Joe Duncan (Anne) of Kentucky, USA; seven grandchildren, Kimberley, Marc, Peter, Jodi, Tasha, Adam and Heather; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Glenna; two brothers, James and Percy. Although there will be no visitation, a Memorial Service will be held from Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 1:45 pm with a Legion Auxiliary Tribute Service followed at 2 pm with a memorial service. Rev. Dr. Terry Atkinson will be officiating. Interment will take place at Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Brunswick Street Baptist Church Building Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
