GALLANT, JACQUES H. 1936 - 2009 It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Jacques (Jack) Henry Gallant, 72, of Moncton at home surrounded by his family on Friday, January 2nd, after a short courageous battle with lung cancer. Jacques is survived by his wife of 47 years, Florence (Roy), four children: Raymond (Jeannine) of Moncton; Andrea (Victor Pokan) of Toronto; Mona Lutz (Blair) of Yarmouth, NS; Roger (Misty) of Moncton and four grandchildren: Julia, Blair, Meagan and Colin. He is also survived by his sisters, Jeannette Cunningham (Michael); Anne-Marie Holt (Ian), brothers Fred (Thelma), Peter (Liz), Edmond (Jeannie) as well as several sister and brother- in- laws, nieces and nephews. Jacques was predeceased by a brother, Andy (Laverne) and two infant siblings. Born in Minto, N.B. in 1936, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Jane (Bourgeois) Gallant. Jacques graduated from Minto High School then joined the Royal Canadian Navy from 1955-1960. Jacques spent most of his professional career (31 years) at NB Tel (now Aliant) and retired in 1991 as a Network Supervisor. Jacques was active in the community through the Moncton Lions Club as a member for 31 years holding several positions including Treasurer, President, and District Governor from 2005-2006. He was involved in organizing the first CNIB Christmas dinner in 1983 and served as a Director for the Moncton Lions Community Centre. Jacques represented the Moncton club at Lions International conventions held in Hong Kong, Boston, and Chicago. Jacques was also a member of the St. Bernard's Catholic Church. In addition to spending time with family, Jacques enjoyed his volunteer work, travel, fishing, watching sports and visiting his wood lot in St. Norbert. The family would like to thank all the medical staff and care givers especially Dr. John Li, Dr. Mansfield and the entire Extra-Mural team. The compassion and support offered was tremendous. The family would also like to thank all family and friends who provided so much support during this difficult time. Visitation will be held at the Cadman Bowness Funeral Home (857-1110) 114 Alma Street, Moncton, on Monday, January 5th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The Lion's Club will hold a memorial service at 7 o'clock in the funeral home and parish prayers will be held at 8:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Moncton, Tuesday, January 6th at 11 am with Father Allison Carroll officiating. A reception will be held in the church hall following the service. Memorial donations in Jacques' memory may be made to the CNIB, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Friends of the Moncton Hospital (Extra Mural program) or the memorial of your choice. www.cadmanbownessfh.com
