WATTS, GEORGE RALPH At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, March 12, 2009, George R. Watts of Greenfield Drive, Fredericton passed away. He was 95 years of age. He was born in Fredericton on February 9, 1914, the son of the late Herbert and Minnie (Black) Watts. George was predeceased by his wife, Calla (Fox) in 1978. He is survived by his son Guy and his brother Allison, both of Fredericton. There are also a few cousins as well as several nieces and nephews. During his life he spent two periods with the Canadian Army, 1941-1947 and 1951-1952. He and his wife Calla operated The Birches Restaurant, The Airport Grill and The Riverside Diner in the early 1960's. George was employed at Camp Gagetown and later at the University of New Brunswick as a commissionaire. During his retirement, George enjoyed working in his garden on the Nevers Road, until joining his son in Toronto. They returned to Fredericton eight years ago. He always enjoyed a good game of cards and during the 60's and 70's, he and his wife would always have a car full of others who enjoyed this activity. He played cards until his eyesight began to fail. Special thanks to the care givers of Integrity who made his last days pleasant and comfortable. Thank you to the nurses and aides on 4NW at the Chalmers Hospital for all their kindness. As per his request, there will be no funeral service. He wished to be remembered for the jovial person he was in life. His wishes were to be cremated. His ashes will be buried next to his wife in the Otis Cemetery.
