LESLIE ROSS HINE
HINE, LESLIE ROSS Leslie Ross (Les) Hine passed away Friday, March 19, 2009, in the Oromocto Public Hospital just a few days away from his 80th birthday, after a lengthy illness. Born in Marple, Cheshire, UK, on March 24, 1929, he was the son of the late Leslie and Sarah (Atkinson) Hine. He joined the Royal Air Force as a national serviceman and later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at Canadian Joint Staff, London, UK. He and his wife Clare, immigrated to Canada in 1955, with their two young sons Joseph and Philip, and were first stationed at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta. Their daughter Janet was born there. Les's military career took him to Alymer, Trenton and Belleville, Ontario, 4 Wing Baden-Söllingen, Germany (where son Andrew was born), Greenwood, Nova Scotia and finally CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick. For the last years of Les's military service, he was the New Brunswick liaison officer for the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. After retirement, he worked at CFB Gagetown, and served as the Commanding Officer of 333 Squadron, RCAC. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Clare (nee Hayden), his children, Joseph (Pat) and their sons, Christopher (Sharon) and Daniel, Philip and his children, Justin and Shannon (Matt), Janet (Richard) Manuel and their sons, John and Mark and Andrew (Lisa) and their children, Alyssa, Dylan and Jonathan. Les had a lifelong love for his companion canines, most recently, Molly, Lucie and Ozzie and cat, Abby, who will miss him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB is planned for the near future. No visitation by request.
