HENRY "HARRY" NICKS

NICKS, HENRY "HARRY" Henry, Dad, Grampy and "G.G." (known as Harry to family and friends) Ford Nicks of Fredericton, NB passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on March 26, 2009 after his courageous battle with Cancer. Harry was a man's man, a soldier's soldier, a caring, loving husband and devoted father to all. He was born on December 24, 1924 in Ingonish Beach, Cape Breton, NS. Harry was a veteran of WWII serving with the North Shore New Brunswick Regiment and Cape Breton Highlanders in Italy, France, Holland and Germany. Upon returning to Cape Breton he worked at the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and then to the Fire Department at the Sydney, NS Naval Base. Harry retired from the Fire Department at the Fredericton Airport in December 1982. He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church since 1966, member of the Fredericton Legion #4. He always enjoyed all the family gatherings (especially Christmas and River Party's). He loved gardening, traveling (wherever anyone was going), was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jay Fan. Jigsaw puzzles, reading, spending quiet winter evenings in front of the fire, warm summer nights on the deck, and walking hand in hand were always spent with his best friend Tillie. He was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Dolena Nicks (Ford), sisters Katherine and Florence Nicks and brother Bert Ernest Nicks. Harry is survived by wife Thelma of 60 years (known as Tilly to family and friends) Nicks (Gillis), three sons: Bert (Gen), Sid (Diane), Wayne (Debbie), two daughters: Elaine Read (Steve), Corrine Agnew (Cedric) ten grandchildren, one chosen grandson, six great grandchildren. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Royal Road, Fredericton, NB on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 2 pm with Father John Jennings as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery at a later date. Special thanks must go out to Dr. Bruce and caregivers of 4NW at the DECH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.
