SAUNDERS, DOROTHY HELEN OF FREDERICTON It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dorothy Helen Saunders, of Fredericton, NB, which occurred on Saturday, April 4, 2009 in Fredericton, NB. Born in Toronto, ON, grew up and married in London, ON. Transferred with her then husband, to Fredericton and raised three beautiful children. Upon retirement from the Province of NB, she chose to stay in the city that she had come to love. Dorothy retired for the second time after three years working with the Community Access Centre Network. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Bob and Dorothy McDonald. She leaves to mourn one son, Dan Saunders (Julie) of Invermere, BC; two daughters, Debi Smith (Barry) of Houston, BC and Kimberly Ann Saunders (Paul Taillon) of Ottawa, ON; six grandchildren, Jayme and Zachary Saunders, Karly and Lorne Osborne, Lindsay and Kelly Smith; one brother, Bob McDonald (Denise) of London, ON; two sisters, Vi Stephenson (Rod) of London, ON and Barbara Godin of MacKenzie, BC; several nieces and nephews and long time friends, Norman and Roy Stephenson and Cindy Lofstrom and S.B., her dearest friend and love. Dorothy was in the Fredericton North Rotary Club for many years. She was awarded the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, Four Avenues of Service Citation and the Rotarian of the Year Award. She was a Rotary Youth Exchange counselor for 8 years and District Chair for the Short Term Youth Exchange program. She was on the committee for Mature Professional Network, Founding member and Past President of Probus Club and Past President of the Nashwaaksis Kinette Club. She was a long time volunteer for the Chalmers Hospital Foundation and other organizations who needed her time. She was happiest when being asked to "help out" with whatever. Dorothy had a saying "Life is Good!" Her smile and giving ways will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Dorothy was a watercolour painter and loved biking, kayaking, long walks along "her" beautiful Saint John River and skiing at Crabbe Mountain. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated from St. Mary's Anglican Church, McEvoy Street, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 11:00 am with Father Ian Wetmore officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Shelley Parker, Verna Norrad, Wendy Hebert, Murielle Lorden, Lori Leach, John Torunski, Lori Hill, Cindy Lofstrom and Roy Stephenson.
