WILLIAM CECIL "BILL" MCINTYRE

MCINTYRE, WILLIAM CECIL "BILL" William Cecil "Bill" McIntyre, 94, Truro, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 7, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born August 24, 1914 in Devon, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late John and Kathleen (Gillard) McIntyre. A loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was devoted to his family. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, and was a veteran of the Canadian Army, having served in the Second World War. He was also a member of the Nova Scotia Hall of Fame, New Brunswick Wall of Fame and First United Church, which he attended regularly. He was an avid athlete and coach of both hockey and baseball for many years through out the Maritimes. After retiring from sports, he worked for the CNR, Margolians, Bentley's Men's Wear and finally as manager of Pye's Men's Wear until his retirement. He believed in living life to the fullest playing old timer's hockey until he was 85 years old. He never lost his love of sports and continued to follow hockey and ball. Bill cherished the many friends and relationships he developed throughout his life from all over the country. One of his greatest thrills was coaching the winning all-stars team in the little league regional at the 1969 Canada Games. Along with both his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Helen (Neiley) in October 2008; son, Ralph; brothers, Jackie, Harold, Ralph; sister, Mrs. Lu (Marion) Stohl. He is survived by his sons, John (Karen), Bear Island, New Brunswick; Charles, Truro; daughter, Rhonda (Stephen) Grandy, Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Colleen Grandy (Jeff Wolosewich), White Horse, Northwest Territories; Amy McIntyre, Saint John, New Brunswick; Jonathan McIntyre, Truro; great grandson Oscar Wolosewich. The family would like to thank Dr. Blair, Dr. J. Singh, Dr. Abassi and the nursing staff in the ICU of the Colchester Hospital for the great care they gave our father. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Bill's family will receive friends from 2 to 4, 7 to 9 pm Sunday, April 12, 2009 and where the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 will conduct a Legion Tribute Service Sunday at 7 pm at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday, April 13, 2009 in First United Church, 711 Prince Street, Truro. Reception will follow in Memorial Hall. Spring interment for Bill and Helen will be held in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Bill's memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Kidney Foundation or a charity of choice are welcomed.
