STEWART, SUSAN DEMPSEY (GOW) The death of Susan, wife of the late Archibald Stewart occurred on May 1, 2009 at York Manor, Fredericton, N.B. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, December 13, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Alan Wilson Gow and Elizabeth Jane Gow (Dempsey). She was predeceased by siblings Mary, Alan, William, Peter, Daniel, Jean and Margaret (Peggy). She is survived by sister Alexandria (Lexie) Copeland and family of Glasgow, Scotland. Susan worked as a young woman in Glasgow in a chocolate factory, a TB Sanatorium in London, England, and, at Miss Romback's Restaurant where she met her husband. Then Susan became a full-time homemaker. They immigrated to Canada in 1953 with their two boys to make a better life for family. She lived in Deseronto and Napanee, ON until 1993 then in Digby, N.S., St. Stephen, N.B., and Fredericton. Susan is survived by her sons, Ian Stewart (Anne) (late wife, Marian) of Fredericton, N.B., and, her son, Archie (Nancy) of Napanee, ON. She is survived by her grandchildren, Fiona Cogswell of Oromocto, N.B., Huw Stewart (Nathalie) of Montreal, PQ, Andy Stewart (Julie) of Quebec City, PQ, Megan Stewart (Rick Lyons) of Fredericton, N.B., John Stewart (Kim) of Belleville, ON, Lisa Saseniuk (Kristopher) of Belleville, ON, Jennifer Templar (Steven) of Napanee, ON. Susan is survived by her great grandchildren, Morgan Cogswell, Alexander Cogswell, of Oromocto, N.B., Rebecca Stewart, Carissa Stewart, Alexa Stewart, Brooke Douglas, Ashton Douglas, of Belleville, ON, Kaitlyn Saseniuk, Kristina Saseniuk, of Belleville, ON, Gabrielle Templar and Georgia Templar of Napanee, ON. York Manor caregivers gave their best to Susan for a number of years. Their constant protection, service, and kind interactions with her gave her family a quiet assurance of the quality of life she deserved during her stay. Her previous home at Reta's Retreat is likewise respected by family. A memorial service will take place at Wilmot United Church, the corner of King and Carleton Streets in Fredericton, N.B. on Tuesday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Bob Jones officiating. We are thankful that Rev. Bob Jones was her connection to the Wilmot family and shared spiritual guidance and friendship with her for many years. Interment will take place at Fredericton Rural Cemetery in the presence of family after the reception following the Memorial Service at Wilmot Church. In lieu of flowers and for those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to Wilmot United Church, 473 King Street, Fredericton, N.B. E3B 1E5, or, charity of choice.
