JOAN TERESA KING

KING, JOAN TERESA Shelburne, N.S. It is with deep hearts that we announce the passing of our mother on May 11, 2009 in Roseway Hospital, Shelburne. Born in Weymouth, Mass. on July 25, 1920, she was the eldest daughter of Francis and Elizabeth ( Powers) Donahoe. The family eventually moved to Fredericton, N.B., where mom grew up and received her education. During the war years, she worked in the Department of Health and at this time she met her future husband, Archibald King, stationed at McGivney, N.B. On September 24, 1947, they were married and moved to Shelburne where Dad founded Ven-Rez Products Ltd. and the King family began to grow. In addition to being a homemaker, she also worked in the office during peak times of the year. Together they raised five sons and one daughter. Mom was also involved in many activities, and community and church organizations, as a volunteer. She was a founding member of St. Thomas Altar Society, volunteered with such organizations as the Roseway Hospital Auxillary, Shelburne Arena, Tottie's Gift Shop and Shelburne Kinettes. She also loved a good round of golf, an evening of Bridge, as well as bowling with friends. In her quiet time, she enjoyed reading and doing crafts. Mom was always a gracious host and welcoming person and she loved to hear and tell jokes. Her home was opened to family and friends alike, which resulted in many fond stories and everlasting memories. She loved to share in the successes of her children and grandchildren, and held all, close to her heart. She showed great kindness to all her children, which will certainly be missed. Mom is survived by sons Barry (Mary Ellen) and Wayne (Debi), Shelburne; Graeme ( Dorothy), Berwick; Colin ( Angela), Halifax; and daughter, Karen ( Keith) Stothart, Lantz; grandchildren, Ryan, Evan, Matthew ( Shelburne), Jennifer ( Halifax) Suzanne (USA), Stephanie and Andrea (Berwick); Braxton (Halifax); Christopher and Amanda (Lantz) and her sister Noreen ( Denny) Valenta, Fredericton, N.B.
