RICKARD, S. ARTHUR "ART" At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton on Wednesday May 20th, 2009, Sydney Arthur "Art" Rickard passed away at the age of 63. Born in Fredericton on May 2, 1946, he was the only child of Phyllis M. (Hachey) Rickard and the late Earl A. Rickard. Art was Wesleyan by faith. A Security Officer and Chauffeur with the Province of New Brunswick, he served with a number of N.B. Lieutenant-Governors including Hon. George F. G. Stanley, Hon. Gilbert Finn, Hon. Margaret N. McCain and Hon. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell. An outdoors enthusiast, he enjoyed gardening, camping, hunting and especially four-wheeling. A devoted and loving son, father and grandfather, Art is survived by his mother, Phyllis of Maugerville; a son Brent and his wife Shelly of Noonan; a daughter Shelley Curtis and her husband Currie of Gray Rapids and was Grampie to four very special grandchildren Brett Curtis, Sydney Rickard, Bailey Curtis and Michael Rickard; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. His father Earl predeceased him in 1989. Visitation will be held from Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Friday from 7 to 9 PM and on Saturday from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 2:00 PM from Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church, 55 Corbett Ave., Fredericton. Rev. John Symonds will officiate. Interment in the Sunny Bank Cemetery immediately following the service. Pallbearers will be Terry Blanchard, Dave Gould, Dave Hachey, Ernie Hachey, John Hachey, Joe Byrne, Bill Stewart and Gary Tobias. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association (NB).
