STAIRS, LAMBERT GORDON Lambert G. Stairs formerly of Dumfries passed away peacefully on May 28, 2009 at York Manor, Fredericton, NB where he had received excellent care. Born at Campbell Settlement, NB in 1920, he was a son of the late Frank and Bessie (Dunlop) Stairs. In his early years, he worked in the woods and joined the army in 1944. He was stationed in Sydney, NS as a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery. Lambert was employed as a truck driver and school bus driver. Later he attended NB Community College in Saint John where he obtained his Motor Vehicle Repair Licence while employed at Rae's Esso. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, driving his tractor and working in his garden. He is survived by one daughter, Janet Morton (Andy), New Maryland; three sons, Steven Stairs (Susan), Davison Lake, Tony Stairs, Vancouver, BC and Richard Stairs, Chicoutimi, QC; four grandchildren, Monica Evans (Vaughan), Amanda Stairs, Kelly Arnold and Brad Stairs (Jennifer); six great grandchildren, Samantha Evans, Abigail Evans, Tabatha Evans, Liam Arnold, Kyle Currie and Brock Currie; four brothers, Floyd Stairs (Rosetta), Nackawic, Eugene Stairs (Delores), Temperance Vale, Ronald Stairs (Nancy), Brooklin, ON and Bernard Stairs (Minabelle), Littleton, ME; five sisters, Winnifred Sala, New Britain, CT, Marie Simonds, Woodstock, Marion Clark-MacFarlane, Southampton, Carol Cole, Oshawa, ON and Ethel Antworth, Houlton, ME; several nieces, nephews an cousins. In addition to his parents, Lambert was predeceased by his wife, Vera (Kelly) Stairs; a son, Stuart Stairs and a sister, Marguerite Stairs. Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. Interment in Lenentine Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Embleton, Bert Bates, Eldon Carson and Rev. Conard Stairs. Active pallbearers will be Brad Stairs, Vaughan Evans, Danny Jean, Gary Simonds, Colin Stairs and Blair Davidson.
